How To Solve Violence In The US? Remove Democrat Run Cities And Bring Back Asylums

June 2, 2023

By Brandon Smith

One of the most common strategies used by the political left to attack 2nd Amendment supporters is to ramp up the anti-gun hype every time a crime involving a gun is committed. They don’t care much about the tragedy itself, they only care about how they can use it for political gain. However, it’s very important to understand that this is not only about removing gun rights for leftists – It’s also about creating a false association in the public consciousness that guns = crime.

That is to say, they want to condition people to believe that once guns are gone, crime and murder will be gone also. But, firearms have been an integral part of American society for hundreds of years, and gun ownership has been present through times of relative peace as well as times of increased violence.

In the case of countries like the UK with incredibly strict gun laws, muggings, rape and homicides have been rising with knife attacks in particular increasing by 80%. While it is technically more difficult to murder a person with a knife, it’s also a lot easier for larger, stronger assailants and gangs to succeed in harming people when those people have no equalizer. Disarmament makes life EASIER for criminals, not harder.

So, if guns are not the catalyst for rising violence, then what is?  In reality, the very people who want guns taken from the hands of law abiding Americans are the same people largely responsible for the spike in homicide rates. Imagine that…

In the US, violent crimes and murders are exponentially higher in Democrat run cities, many of them with increased gun control measures. In fact, of the top 30 most violent cities in the US, 27 of them are Democrat controlled. Wherever leftists dominate politically, violence, theft, rape and murder are sure to follow. Anti-gun proponents often try to cite high homicide numbers in certain conservative states like Texas, but the majority of those crimes are actually committed in cities run by leftists.

The truth is, blue cities are dragging red states and the rest of the country down. According to the statistics, in theory, if the public was to replace all Democrat city politicians with conservative leadership murder rates would immediately plunge across the US by virtue of policy.

But what is it specifically about Democrat leadership that leads to far higher crime? There are other trends to consider, such as incarceration rates in any given state or county, severity of punishment for violent crimes and repeat offenders, and let’s not forget a subject a lot of people don’t want to talk about – The separation of the mentally ill from the rest of society. Leftists often support revolving door policies for criminals, reduced sentences for violent crime (if the perpetrator is a minority) and they are adamantly opposed to incarceration for those with dangerous mental illness.

They’re happy to take away the 2nd Amendment rights of innocent Americans, but they have no interest in keeping criminals in prison or keeping mentally unstable people away from normal society. Perhaps because their goal is NOT to reduce violence, but to use exponential violence in society as a reason to erode the constitution.

Incarceration does in fact work, far better that gun control does. But in order to understand the incarceration rate and its effectiveness in stopping violence, we have to look at two systems simultaneously – Prison incarceration and mental asylum incarceration. The following data shows US incarceration per capita in various prison systems for the past century:

The next graph shows homicide rates per capita for between 1900 to around 2010

And this graph shows homicide rates from the 1960’s up to the 2020s.

One issue that is immediately noticeable is that prison numbers spiked massively starting in the mid-1980s, after which homicide rates began to plunge. Also note that less incarceration in the early 1900s coincides with much higher murder rates across the nation. But what about that dip in murders from the 1930s to the 1960s? What caused that?

Well, it’s not necessarily an economic problem as many progressives might suggest. The country was hitting peak prosperity in the 1920s and murder rates were still sky high. On the opposite end, the system was still in depression turmoil in the 1930s to 1940s, but homicide rates plunged. So, what caused violent crime to fall in that era?

The only factor that seems to coincide with this period of relative peace is the sudden increase in psychiatric incarceration from around the 1930s onward.

While prison rates remained low and mostly static between the mid-1930s to the mid-1960s, the number of mental asylums holding dangerous patients was growing. And, like magic, violence in the US dropped off a cliff.

By extension, as asylums began to shut down in the 1970s, murders jumped back once again to record highs. Without asylums and with low prison incarceration, homicides spread like wildfire and it did not stop until the mid-1980s when prison rates spiked. In other words, the prison system and the legal system had to finally pick up the slack left behind as the mental asylums disappeared.

Finally, take note of the recent jump in homicides and violence in the past few years in graph #3 – It matches almost exactly with falling incarceration trends in Graph #1.  This has been mostly encouraged by Democrat policies in blue cities and blue states. Also keep in mind that the Democrats of today are part of a new woke cultism – They are not necessarily the same Democrats from 30 years ago. Woke Democrats want all barriers to criminal activity removed, including incarceration.

Furthermore, mental illness in the US is on the rise. Over 42% of Gen Z has been diagnosed with at least one mental health condition and psychiatric drugs are doing little to help. We have minimal mental illness facilities in place to deal with the influx of unstable people permeating society. We are about to REPEAT the pattern of the early 1900s, with a lower prison population and no asylums, violence will likely continue to spiral out of control.

To be sure, in the past there were some terrible practices involving mental health establishments and it doesn’t do anyone any good to repeat those mistakes. In the early days of psychiatry they caste a wide net that caught a lot of dangerous people, but they also locked up anyone with marginal mental problems as well. This led to abuses.

That said, it’s foolish to dismiss the numbers; asylums worked. They helped to reduce murders dramatically. At least 1% of the human population has psychopathic traits (including lack of empathy) and these people cause at least 30% of all crime in the US. At least 3% of the human population exhibits psychotic tendencies, which means they are prone to abrupt violence without treatment.  Something has to be done to address the mentally unstable in our nation. Their odds of recidivism are extremely high, and they will keep on committing the same crimes over and over again until they are stopped.

This is the elephant in the room that the political left doesn’t want to talk about. They try to hide it with social justice platitudes and feel-good welfare programs, but these things are clearly useless. Separating dangerous and insane people from the rest of the population is the only sure method for saving lives in the long run and keeping civilization intact.

The solution is simple and two-fold: Get rid of leftist leaders in major cities that set violent repeat offenders free, and bring back mental health facilities to lock up the crazies if necessary. This is the ONLY WAY to stop the avalanche of violent crime that awaits Americans as the next few years unfold.

Yes, democrats like Soros & black and female mayors & politicians of blue cities facilitate crimes but 75% of the actual crimes are committed by only the 3% of our population represented by black males between the ages of 15 and 30 years old. When they commit violent crimes they are out of jail before the arresting officer goes home to his family. We need to get serious about punishment or get used to violent crimes. I suspect the latter will happen so brace for even tougher times ahead folks.

It’s actually 13% of the population and they commit 50% of all violent crime, and yes, that needs to be addressed as well, but that won’t be possible without addressing longer prison terms for repeat offenders.

  • John P June 2, 2023 at 11:56 am

Nice to see Brandon on terra firma—nonsensical conservative approaches to societal woes abounding at the present.
The more the Democrats run their Clockwork Orange coddling of criminals in some kooky eyelid-lifting experiment, the more crime, especially from repeat offenders who are freed under some deranged anarcho-tyranny plan.
Yes, there is such a thing as these two systems—one destroying, the other re-ordering—which complement one another. The revolving door for the criminally insane—no longer a term in vogue, attesting to the woke subversion of our language—feeds more and more crime. Lock ‘em up.

If you want asylums back they are going to be BIGGER then current prison systems. They will have to be CITYWIDE in capacity for about half the population are Demoncraps and we know them to have mental illness. They will have to be committed to them but that might bring jobs back for the Red states. Not that we particularly need them.

    • Laura Ann June 9, 2023 at 6:37 am

Big mistake was closing them down and letting people onto the streets who remain homeless until this day. New lunatic asylums need to be built with modern building standards as many old ones along east coast were built in 1800’s ( some 1700’s) and been demolished. Must have tight security as those with mental illness can be violent.

“… blue cities are dragging red states and the rest of the country down.”
    .
The Great Promise of (the Ideal of) America has largely been abandoned and demonized by a ruthless power class of politicians and corporate leaders who don’t believe in that Promise and want to see it fully erased for all time. And along with that, the hopes and dreams of Americans who now also question that vision and promise in greater numbers thanks to the massive campaign of brainwashing and gaslighting going on from State Media and Anti-Social Media and State and University Education and other social groupings gone rogue and twisted and Woke.
    .
We are living through the tragic erasure of what was the greatest political idea ever yet to emerge in human society – true Power To The People. Not some damn king or tyrant or land baron. But the real, flesh-and-blood human beings who live and work and play and die in that land.
    .
That idea was somewhat tolerated to varying degrees over the many years by the dark powers but now that Vision of America is on life support and on the very critical list. Good Americans who still believe in that vision and who fight on to preserve it are fighting an uphill battle against The Powerful who seek America’s surrender to a Global Governance System of all power in the hands of tiny group of cowards with small minds and pathological delusions of godhood.
    .
Out of control crime without punishment is just one of the levers of attack in service of the greater goal of America’s (and American’s) surrender.
    .
We must not and can not abandon hope and ways that seek to preserve what America claimed itself to be all those centuries ago. But we must not kid ourselves about just how deep the rot is and the monumental task of fighting all those who’ve already given up on America and The Dream.
    .
The Ship of State is going down. And the time to get it righted is growing very short.

Thats a good comment Roundball. The only nit I have is people are reclaiming their power. We wont see it much from the media, I think it (the tide) is turning. Yes there will be many ups and downs. Evil is strong, yet so is Good. The acting up that Evil is currently engaged in should tell everyone all they need to know.

They (evil) know they are no match for the forces of light. I see more and more folks waking from their slumber, and walking in the light. It wont be easy or quick, but the forces of evil overreached when they went after children in such an open and brazen manner. It will be truly Epic. A cautionary tale for the ages, how overreach, hubris, and pride turned their certain victory into defeat

      • Roundball Shaman June 7, 2023 at 11:29 am

Van Franklin: “… people are reclaiming their power. We wont see it much from the media, I think it (the tide) is turning.”

Van, I agree that many people ARE waking up who had not been awake or who had not been asserting their personal power. But what concerns me are all the many young people today who seem to like to have outsiders and so-called authorities to run everything about their lives like helicopter parents. This is the generation that will soon be taking over everything.

If a sufficient number of young people do not learn to love freedom and personal agency but are instead happy to be children forever of the Daddy State… then the Nation is in real trouble.

        • Van Franklin June 8, 2023 at 4:51 pm

Agree with you the nation is in real trouble Roundball. And these Gen Zs and Millenials want to be perpetual children. I see in mine, (I have each) the worst, yet some of the best traits of earlier generations. My kids (from there mid 20s to early 30s) have good work ethics and take care of their business. It did to take longer than I would have wanted. Their friends I’ve met are not on board with the PC nonsense. Their distrust. of authority is still in its infancy. Boomers and GenX went through the same thing, Although we took care of ourselves from 18 on, at least most males did.

I think it is a majority who are happy to be perpetual children. But that majority is not overwhelming. And the group of grown children’s examples are nothing but failed Kens And Karens, living miserable lives. At the end of the day young people often emulate those they admire. Even for the basement dwelling man child who lives with his single mom, they have the potential to come around, even if it is slowly. Nothing changes someone more than finally earning a paycheck, just to see a bunch of it stolen by GovCo. That is a great seed to take root.

Remember as well ‘all it takes is a determined minority to set the brushfires in the minds of men.’ Sorry I probably got that wrong. I still think we have a lot of bright spots amid all the darkness.

I did a little digging into the report itself and found an error. I know it’s an error because I live in the city in question. The report is on the Heritage website, called The Blue City Murder Problem. In that report, it lists the top 30 cities by homicide rate, with Lexington, KY on the list but pretty far down. The next paragraph says, “Not surprisingly, of those 30 cities, 27 have Democratic mayors, the exceptions being Lexington and Jacksonville…” Wrong! Lexington has a Democrat for a mayor. And has for as long as I’ve lived here. So it’s not 27 cities that have Democrat mayors, it’s 28.

Brandon Smith June 3, 2023 at 8:15 am

There are 25 cities called Lexington in the US, so it depends on which one they are referring to.

    • Keith June 3, 2023 at 10:49 am

I live in Jacksonville Nick. As of this writing, Jacksonville does not have a Dem mayor. Donna Deegan (major homewrecker) was just elected a few weeks ago and has yet to take office. The city has been run by GOP mayors the last 30 excepting a four year stretch with Alvin Brown from 2011-15.
That said, in Jacksonville, there are enough checks and balances to prevent the crumbing of the city like in Baltimore, Seattle, Portland et Al
One is the Sheriff and most of the police force are Republican. The City Council has a Supermajority GOP, and Deegan was elected because she is a Jacksonville native and was a TV newscaster for decades. She’s very invested in the city. Finally Shad Khan, owner of the Jaguars REALLY runs the town.
Yeah, I didn’t vote for her because she schtupped the weather guy in a car in the back of the studio while her husband, the sports anchor OF THE SAME STATION, was on air inside the building. I was disappointed and had the same fears when she won, but after some thinking I am cautiously optimistic that there’s enough to prevent her from turning the city into Detriot. I hope I’m not wrong.

  • Keith June 3, 2023 at 10:39 am

Usually you’re right on point Brandon, and this was a very thoroughly detailed and researched article, and I agree with everything, but you left out the REAL reason why need guns and that is to equalize the threat of government tyranny.
To be fair, this article is extremely important in pointing out that you don’t need a gun to kill people. As MTG once told the British Press who asked her about gun violence here in the US “you have mass stabbings lady”. Also ask the good people of Waukesha if cars can be effective at killing.
Also, I know you write PLENTY of other great articles about the need to be prepared both in a survival sense through food and prepping, but also by staying armed. I just thought leaving out a sentence or two about the need to be armed against tyranny might not totally explain your point to people who are unfamiliar

Brandon Smith June 3, 2023 at 10:59 am

This article is about CRIME, not guns. The primary point is that guns are not the issue.

  • Rodster June 4, 2023 at 10:16 am

The one thing the left never does is to point to situations where a good person with a gun, stopped a bad person with a gun doing major damage. As the article points out, take away guns and you make it easier for criminals to commit crimes, including violent crimes against innocent people.

  • Hillbilly Bee June 4, 2023 at 1:18 pm

I’m seeing a root cause of crime and don’t really know how to address it: Some people have no moral compass. There was a time when both black and white cultures had a religious basis, even if not direct but rather through grandparents. The “ten commandments” and “golden rule” were recognized by most leaders in education, law, and business. Secular concepts such as “on the level and the square” were also influential. Parents instructed children about sharing, playing fair, honesty, and not taking what isn’t yours. With current social breakdowns, children are no longer instructed in such concepts of morality, merely punished when they don’t abide by them — sometimes. While I’m not a fan of organized religion, I believe that moral precepts form the basis of a free and constructive society. How can we start disseminating them in a society where the usual means are gone or crippled?

  • Naatok June 5, 2023 at 6:46 am

Could the rise of the ‘entitlement culture’ be a factor in the rise of nascent criminal activity in the U.S? It seems to me that much of the rampant thievery going on across the nation is being committed by youth utterly convinced that helping themselves to the property of non-consenting others is a form of reparation of some sort for the ‘hurts’ done them by society.
Perhaps this, too, is attributable to the rise of ‘mental illness.’

    • Avatar photo
Brandon Smith June 5, 2023 at 6:52 am

It’s probably a factor, but the solution generally remains the same – People prone to instability, psychopathy and violence against innocents have to be separated from the rest of society, in one way or another. I would also include the people invested in targeting children for sexualized grooming. They need to be locked up or cast out, and as a civilization we need to prioritize removing these people from influence.

      • Hillbilly Bee June 5, 2023 at 12:46 pm

Unfortunately, to do this separation lawfully, we must wait for a crime to occur and then successfully prosecute and convict. This is sad, especially where children are involved. The best we can hope for is to apprehend after a small crime.

I would say we need the bring back the three strike’s rule for convicted criminals and also identify the mentally unstable within the prison system as potential repeat offenders that need extra scrutiny. I think ultimately in the future civilization will pick out psychopaths and remove them from the mix right away – Keeping them out of positions of power could be the key to saving humanity.

I believe the mental illness is a feature not a bug. Meaning I believe that the mental illness spike in society is being done on purpose in concert with the so-called solution. I believe that vaccines harm children from birth onward. And then when the behavioral issues become apparent in growing children…desperate parents… even those that would prefer not to… follow and trust doctors who prescribe psych meds to their children. That of course just compounds the mental illness all the more until we are left with a generation of kids who through no fault of their own are just very damaged. I also believe that’s where a lot of the craziness we are witnessing with the gay and trans issues are originating. I’m not making excuses for the aggressors in society I’m just saying that I firmly believe that this is in part what is taking place.

As you know all of this that you see manifesting today has been in the works for a very long time. It is not a coincidence that an uptick in the usage of vaccines and psych meds for the past generation corresponds with these conditions that our children and society are suffering with today.

    • Gauntlet33 June 7, 2023 at 10:34 am

Exactly. THEY poison us in various ways (foods, water, spraying the skys, etc.) to kill us. Those that aren’t killed in the first round are then prescribed “medications” to kill them. (Ever notice the intertwined snakes and dagger on the AMA’s logo?) Those that still don’t die then fill the world with hate.
      ..
Fortunately, if you believe in God, you realize that He had a perfect design for this world and designed our bodies with natural immunities to protect us from the NATURAL things God created. Unfortunately, even our immune systems are often times not strong enough to stop the Devil’s poisons.
      ..
And in a way, the LGBTQ people are victims. God did not make gays or lesbians or trans people. Leave no doubt in your mind that these people themselves were poisoned (likely during pregnancy and then in their formative years — the exact poisons I don’t know, but I’ll speculate that pregnant mothers on marijuana, psychotropic drugs, hormones, etc. may be the cause), and for that I feel sympathy and compassion as their lives will forever be ruined, with a vast majority not having the joy of having biological children. However, that sympathy only goes so far, and though they don’t realize that their mere pawns in the game, I despise their movement and them for their grotesque lifestyles and for trying to force it down our throats.

  • Gauntlet33 June 7, 2023 at 3:27 pm

Off topic, but here’s further evidence that the govt is doing it damned best to drain the US of its ability to defend against foreign invasion (after we “lost” billions in armaments in Afghanistan and gave record billions in munitions and armaments to Ukraine). I’m therefore fully expecting an invasion from Russia and China in the next 2 years now that the US is at its weakest point ever.

—One shouldn’t waste much time trying to understand the left. You will banging your head against the wall a long time.

Some common questions you may have:
—Why are they impervious to facts?
—How can they be so hypocritical
—Why do they not give a shit about what just happened?

—Most of you have asked them to yourself or others at one point. Admittedly it’s been one of those conundrums that have nearly driven me crazy over the years.

—Here’s what you must remember: If it’s good for the leftist cause and moves it forward then it is good. If it is bad for the movement then it must be avoided.

-The cause is whatever the MSM and their shot callers tell them. The tone is set and then filtered to their field marshalls. These are the people who keep the liberals and confused/brainwashed on the plantation.

—Making up numbers but would say it’s probably 70% typical Dem voter to 30% total zealots and leadership. I have ZERO interest in the 30%. I made a valiant effort trying to break a member of the 70% out of the cult. I failed and the odds were in my favor. It certainly dimmed my hope they could be easily dislodged from the lies.

—I suspected and I believe confirmed that breaking the 70% scares the elite. I believe the covid vaccines play a role in that. Look how quickly they circled the wagons for Jamie Fox & Hamlin. That was a world class effort on Hamlin. I think TPTB are concerned about the public becoming aware.

—Going forward I have 2 potential game changers and they work hand in hand. The covid vaccines as discussed above but more importantly RFK Jr on the campaign trail. No I don’t think he can win the D primary but I think he can really stir shit up. Unlike that douchebag Sanders Kennedy speaks his mind which holds TRUTH. If nothing else I would love to see him peel them away from the D Party. Kind of in the same fashion Trump peeled many of us including myself away from the RNC. Hell I hate them as much as the Democrats these days.

—Admittedly I am not betting the farm on either happening. However it’s the only thing I think that can stop a very ugly future. A future that will no doubt have some rough patches regardless.
