It’s a common survivalist trope, even before the movie ‘Red Dawn’ was ever in theaters; the idea of escaping a national grid down crisis and starting a life in an isolated rural retreat. Another common survivalist trope is for any newbie prepper personality on YouTube or elsewhere to admonish you for even thinking you can live in the woods while telling you it’s impossible. Well, that’s the lazy argument – I won’t say it’s impossible, because it’s not, but you do have to plan ahead and take a lot of factors into consideration.
Factors such as: How many other people are trying to do the same thing you’re doing? How vast is this wilderness you are trying to live in? Do you have family and young children with you? How well do you know these woods? Have you ever tried to live in such a place before? For any longer than a week? Did you plan ahead and cache supplies? The list goes on and on.
In the next issue of the Wild Bunch, I’ll relate my experience in the wild woods of Montana and what I have learned and we will also discuss the many important issues that you could face during any attempt to set up a semi-permanent or permanent camp in the wilderness.

This is about what I imagined it would be like. I loved The Walking Dead before SHTF was an afterthought. I always assumed it was because of the survival horror genre. Used to love the Resident Evil video game series. We don’t want to get here (what you describe) anymore than we want Globohomo’s technogulag.
Hey Brandon here is a great piece (upper level) explaining where we are at. This is really what makes the scenario you just painted an unfortunate possibility. I don’t believe this can be stopped nor should it.
