For newer readers who might not be familiar, I started on a journey a couple years ago to write and publish a comic book (graphic novel) with a non-woke story and conservative heroes. I had never written in comic format before. I had never worked with an artist before and had no idea how to find one. I had very little idea how the pages were formatted or how to get the book from concept to the print stage.
I had to learn everything from scratch, but I did it with the help of some fine people (the colorist has even been a regular reader of Alt-Market for many years). The book is now in print and I have to say, I’m very happy with the final result. I’ve sent copies to some reviewers and I’ve had positive feedback so far.
But why would an economist and political analyst write a comic?
My feeling has long been that conservatives have neglected popular media for far too long. We let woke leftists invade our entertainment space and hijack it for their own political ends, and disaster has resulted. Movies, TV and even comic books are the source of our cultural zeitgeist; they help us to explore our principles and values in a compelling way. They are also how we often share our values with younger generations. When people with malicious intent control the gates to entertainment, only evil will be glorified.
My book, Mountain Hollow, is a small contribution to bringing American storytelling back from the brink of oblivion. Also, it was fun for me to step away from the real world for a little while and use my imagination. There are subtle conservative themes throughout the book along with a survivalist / military veteran hero (most survivalists in modern entertainment end up being villains), but the story isn’t overtly political. I think that’s what most people are looking for today – Less politics and more talent in media.

His solitude is broken, however, when a baby girl named Abigail is kidnapped by a madman and the community is unable to do anything about it.
Alan sets out into the wilderness to track down the criminal and save the girl – Little does he know a dark and impossible agenda is at hand, and his decision to intervene will set him on a path to war with beings from another realm.

I plan to avoid crowdfunding for Book #2. Instead, we are setting a goal of 1000 copies sold for Book #1. If we reach that goal then we will automatically use the profits to start working on the next installment of the story. Now that I’ve gone through the entire process from writing to print, I believe we can finish the next book much faster.
My hope is that many more conservative creators will join this movement to bring back entertainment. I would argue that leftists in Hollywood and the comic book industry are content to leave American pop culture in ruins. Even if they can’t force us to consume their products, they can destroy everything that used to make us happy. We have a long trail to blaze before we can reverse the damage done, but better days and better media can be achieved with support from patriots like you.
