The Afghanistan Exit Debacle: Incompetence, Distraction Or Something More Sinister?

August 19, 2021

By Brandon Smith

My first instinct has been to ignore the circus surrounding Biden’s apparent bungle of the troop exit from Afghanistan, primarily because I think it distracts from the much bigger danger of despotic covid mandates and vaccine passports that Biden and his handlers are trying to push forward right now on our home soil. That said, I have received numerous requests from readers to discuss the situation and I’ve found certain aspects of the pull-out rather suspicious. The basic assumption here is that Biden is senile and his handling of the exit is tainted by his stupidity, but maybe there is more to this than meets the eye…

First, I think it’s important to dispel a propaganda narrative being circulated by the media that conservatives are somehow calling for troops to stay in Afghanistan by criticizing Biden’s exit strategy. This is typical leftist gaslighting. One can be in favor of a troop draw-down and still be critical of Biden’s handling of it. Frankly, the US should have been out of Afghanistan several years ago; I don’t think that it’s too much to ask that there be a concrete plan in place to mitigate damage to those people who relied on our presence to protect them from the Taliban.

It was Barack Obama who first promised an exit from Afghanistan by 2014 while claiming that the “combat mission was over.” This of course never happened and the political left ignored Obama’s deception in favor of the progressive savior narrative.

To be fair, the Trump Administration did the same exact thing, platforming the idea of a major draw-down or a full exit and then instituting troop surges instead, but at least conservatives were far more critical of his backpedaling. Trump finally committed to troop reductions in 2020, with most of the assets relocated AFTER the November election, leaving 2500 military personnel in Afghanistan along with 17,000 private contractors.

The real shock has been the speed of Biden’s exit agenda after Trump had already removed the bulk of US troops. This rapid draw-down has included cutting almost all US troops and cutting private contractor numbers by at least 60%, and all of this has been undertaken in the span of a few months. This has allowed the Taliban to overrun the last secure provinces surrounding the capital of Kabul and then overrun Kabul itself. A panic has ensued among Afghan citizens with anti-Taliban sentiments, and it’s hitting a fever pitch with hundreds of thousands looking for any way to escape.

It has been the common practice of multiple US administrations to pay lip service to public concerns over the endless war in Afghanistan, telling people an exit is imminent, then shrugging their shoulders when they are caught lying. It has become so formulaic that I think Americans have been conditioned to expect we would never actually leave the country; that the false promises would go on perpetually. Perhaps that’s why Biden’s rushed and haphazard removal of troops from the region over the span of mere months feels so bizarre.

Biden apologists would make the argument that the gibbering commander-in-chief has given us exactly what we wanted, so we should be applauding him. However, the chaotic manner in which Biden is executing the troop draw-down is increasingly suspect. It feels more like a desperate retreat in the face of an overwhelming attack, rather than a controlled exit with a defensive plan in the face of a limited insurgency. Or, even more disturbing, it feels like Biden needs those troops and resources elsewhere and in a hurry – but where are the troops needed and why?

An exit strategy should have taken at least another year to complete, with a secure zone surrounding Kabul and the provinces bordering Pakistan, along with a plan to evacuate civilians at risk of reprisal from Islamic fundamentalists. A longer term (and better) strategy would have been to divide a portion of provinces away from the harder to control regions of the country and form a new nation made up of people that do not want to live under Taliban rule (there are a lot of them). This would have been a more meaningful solution, but one that should have been pursued years ago. It’s far too late now.

It needs to be understood that the US was NEVER going to “win” the war in Afghanistan. An orthodox military strategy is rarely going to succeed against a long term insurgency using asymmetric tactics. It does not matter how technologically advanced that military might be; it does not matter how many planes, tanks, and drones they might have. Eventually over time they WILL lose by pure attrition in the face of a guerrilla resistance.

I also want to point out that it is not really the troop draw-down that opened the door to the recent Taliban offensive as much as the draw-down of the 17,000 private contractors in country. This was the major force that was keeping the Taliban at bay post election.

And that brings us to current day, in which Afghans are piling onto the landing gear of planes leaving Air Force bases outside Kubul as the capital is overtaken by Taliban fighters in scenes reminiscent of the end of US involvement in the Vietnam War. Afghan mothers are throwing their babies over barbed wire to soldiers on the other side. Multiple governments have not even had time to evacuate their embassies as the Taliban moved in. Women are quickly dusting off their burkas after 20 years and people who ran for public office are left behind to be slaughtered, while untold numbers of US armaments have been left to fall into the hands of the Taliban. It just doesn’t make sense. And here is where we need to examine some theories as to why this was handled the way it was.

I’m not buying the “Biden is incompetent” story because it is too simplistic and it doesn’t take the bigger picture into account. Biden is a muppet, a mascot, a front-man for the public to love or hate, and that’s all he is. Yes, he can barely read from a teleprompter, but it’s his puppeteers that make the big decisions, not Biden. They are evil people, but not incompetent.

So we have to ask some important questions: Why now? And, who benefits? After decades of presidents lying to us about “mission accomplished” and impending troop exits, why is Biden suddenly committing to an exit strategy in the most hysterical way possible?

Why did the Biden Admin choose September 11th as the end date for the troop exit? It’s certainly symbolic of further US failure and defeat, but is it also symbolic of a new phase in the establishment’s plans for the US as a whole? Is there another major event like 9/11 or larger on the way, and is the sudden exit from Afghanistan in preparation for that event?

As I mentioned, there are scenes here that remind me of Vietnam, but I am also reminded of Benghazi – There is a rotten smell to this event, as if the goal is to deliberately spark an inferno to hide another motive in smoke.

To be sure, the insanity in Afghanistan is quite a distraction away from the implementation of vaccine passports and other illegal mandates in the US, with an increasing number of corporations and city and state governments trying to enforce them. The DHS has just released a statement indicating that anyone who refuses to submit to restrictions and the experimental mRNA vaccines “might” be a potential terrorist. They are even entertaining the idea of interstate restrictions on travel for unvaccinated people, which is something I have been predicting for the past year and it is an action that’s on the top of my list of items that will trigger civil war.

Everything those of us in the alternative media have warned about over the past 18 months in terms of medical tyranny is coming true. It’s not “conspiracy theory”, it’s conspiracy reality.

The Biden Admin will certainly try to announce vaccine passport requirements at the federal level in the near future. Is the plan to bring US troops and maybe even private contractors home to the US to help enforce illegal directives through martial law? There is a high probability of a soft secession of red states and counties if the mandate farce continues. With US troops being majority conservative there is the hope that they will not comply and that they have no interest in fighting yet another insurgency made up of their own people. We will have to wait and see.

Or, is there another war on the way that is designed to siphon off able-bodied Americans to fight in some other foreign hell hole when they would otherwise be fighting for freedom in the US? A build-up in the Pacific has been ongoing and the Chinese CCP is indeed one of the most horrific regimes in existence today, but we have to eliminate the communists and globalists within out own country first before we can worry about those ruling on the other side of the world.

A regional conflict with China or any other country at this stage would completely undermine the already fragile US economy and the global supply chain, not to mention further devalue the US dollar and increase price inflation to a crippling degree. It’s something to consider.

What has me most concerned, again, is the speed at which all of this is being implemented. In my latest articles I have outlined the fact that the government and the corporate establishment is bombarding the public with propaganda on the vaccine passports and covid restrictions at a level not seen since the height of the pandemic in January. It is as if they MUST get these measures in place by the end of this year or the beginning of the next. By extension, the exit from Afghanistan also seems like a scramble. Maybe this is because the resources being used there will be needed elsewhere by the end of this year?

I can’t predict what the exact event will be, but it seems obvious that the establishment is making preparations for another crisis in the near term. The abrupt end of the occupation of Afghanistan is a warning sign of more pressing threats ahead.

Great article once again Brandon. You are right about Biden’s incompetency. Even the legacy media is loudly proclaiming the incompetency of Biden’s actions in Afghanistan. You correctly point out that, whoever the ventriloquists are with their arm shoved up Biden’s rear end and making his lips move, they are not incompetent. They are EVIL and acting with malicious intent. For them to achieve their ideological goals they must bring the USA and the American people to their knees. Global control is not possible without taking the ‘terrorist’ freedom loving American individuals out of the game. They will do ANYTHING necessary to maintain control of government via controlled manipulation of the election process. They will limit and restrict individual rights, liberties and freedoms until those that seek to defend them can be easily identified and isolated. They will tighten financial and economic controls until individuals are forced to turn to the ‘state’ to meet all of their needs. These are the tactics being used to eliminate the freedom loving American individuals from the game. Everything we see, every bit of chaos and confusion, is intentional if for no other reason than to delay and distract with the right hand while the left hand holds the knife they will use to try and slit our throats.

The yellow flag of distraction was raised within my instincts, that little voice that says “pay attention “

I always think it’s funny that China is our enemy and yet we have Off-shored a large percentage of our production in goods and supplies, even components for our military to them?. Feels like Oceania vs. Eurasia to me.

I sense something large on the horizon headed our way.

  • Serge August 19, 2021 at 9:09 am

That Afghan case reminds me a lot of a psyop serving a very, very sinister agenda.
Remember that the United States has been in a state of emergency since September 11. The next step ? Martial law following a “major crisis”: economic (collapse of the dollar or other), a “climate emergency”, even a new pandemic, etc.
This fall will certainly mark a turning point for the US and the rest of the world.

    • baba August 19, 2021 at 5:35 pm

Wont even need that much drama. Andy Slavitt of Bnai Brith provenance, gave ROSH HASHANAH as a due date for roll out of national MARK of the BEAST, probably using shut down of interstate highways to assist its enforcement. Hence the hurry to bring the troops home- so they can be used on YOU.

Isn’t the US reliant on semi-conductors from Taiwan & it looks as though China are flexing their muscles in the region so this will weaken the US a lot if China goes after Taiwan. The CCP have already established links with Taliban so will now control all the Lithium in Afghanistan which will provide the Chinese enconomy with a nice boost now the rest of the world is followign the Green new deal.

  • Al August 19, 2021 at 10:03 am

To me it’s quite clear this is all planned, and as Brandon said, made out to look like Biden is incompetent. I also agree there is more going on than we are being told. This is ALWAYS the case.

One can’t ignore the fact that the Taliban is a CIA asset. Of course I don’t have proof but will anyone demand it? Or simply accept that as fact just like accepting that Biden et.al are all puppets. Al Qaeda, ISIS, ISIL, Osama Bin Laden and other “terrorists” (driving US sourced Toyota trucks) are all CIA assets. The entire Afghanistan occupation was/is for the poppy fields to feed the medical establishment’s created opioid crisis. And leaving the weapons behind is purely accidental.

China is in control of the Belt and Road Initiative so perhaps this is tossing China the keys? China no longer wants to be the bottom of the barrel of manufacturing or anything else and are aggressively setting up their partners along the Belt and Road. Biden is under orders to hand the power to the East? Along with whatever the US left behind? It’s like anyone bidding on the contents of a storage locker sight unseen and finding gold bricks inside.

  • Luther Jacob August 19, 2021 at 10:39 am

I absolutely agree. There’s something on the back burner going on. But I think we will find out what is before the mid term elections. My only defense to what is on the horizon that I keep telling people is to get prepared. Stock up and plan to (whatever your personal situation is) bug in or bug out. As for the Afghan pull out, what a slap in the face of those of us who served there.

  • Going Dark Soon August 19, 2021 at 10:59 am

I suspect this fiasco is just a distraction from the coming flood of vaccine deaths that will begin with the flu season this year. They will call it the epsilon variant, and the military will be needed to man the road blocks as travel interstate is shut down. Those with vaccination cards will be allowed to pass, those without will get the vax whether they want it or not with the alternative being a FEMA camp.

The really sad thing is that the idiotic American people will still be praising the same military for protecting their freedom. The brainwashing runs VERY DEEP.

  • Rodster August 19, 2021 at 11:02 am

The lesson to be learned here, if or when the US turns against its own people, is that you don’t need the most powerful and most advanced weaponry to defeat your enemy. If that were the case the Taliban would not have stood a chance. Instead they outlasted the enemy, i.e. the United States.

    • Gauntlet33 August 19, 2021 at 5:23 pm

I wonder if the deep state CIA wants us to believe that the US military is weak, and therefore the reason to accept UN troops to quell the upcoming riots that will happen once they go on to the next phase…I’m guessing some economic collapse.

All orthodox militaries are weak against asymmetric warfare. The establishment knew going into Afghanistan that it was an unwinnable war, they just dragged it out until they were ready to let the whole thing fall apart. We were always going to lose in Afghanistan because it’s an long term occupation against a guerilla insurgency.

        • Douglas Ker August 26, 2021 at 6:07 pm

Sort of reminds one of a certain skirmish a bunch of off shore colonies fomented in their quest to seek independence from a tyrannical government with superior military capability.
It is intriguing to see just how quickly, in historical context, how a good idea can be twisted, subverted and manipulated to reinstitute tyrannical interests all the while promoting allegiance to the founding principals of moral and righteous god given understandings.
          Astonishing.

  • Cyndi August 19, 2021 at 11:49 am

I saw an article on The National Pulse that Biden’s State Dept halted a Trump era plan, to avoid another Benghazi-several months ago. That is why there are no specialized assets to go in to rescue because they don’t exist.

  • Pilgrim August 19, 2021 at 1:23 pm

Brandon, great article and thoughts. I got an odd feeling when reading about the UNs involvement and regarding optics of their role, like a baton pass, from American leadership (once great, now corrupted and feeble) to the UN as a moral high ground. The UN plans a large role in the great reset, and needs buy-in on an emotional level. Thoughts on how this fiasco plays into the UN and the reset?

2500 military troops would be enough to install martial law and interstate checkpoints? Wouldn’t more be needed? Especially if you make the reasonable assumption that a certain percentage of them will go AWOL.

You’re forgetting about the 17,000+ contractors. It’s certainly possible in terms of interstate checkpoints. Hopefully if that is the plan the majority of the military will not comply.

      • Gotheart August 30, 2021 at 4:39 am

Brandon do you think the Afghans being brought to the US are those the CIA trained and will be used against us in place of our military? Thanks.

  • linda brown August 19, 2021 at 8:02 pm

In Australia and the police and military are willingly complying…..

    • Hubbs August 22, 2021 at 3:32 am

I think that people don’t realize that as long as the USD in the form of paychecks and pensions still buys goods and services, there will be plenty of mercenaries, contractors, and soldiers who will comply. Most enlisted men and women whom I have talked to ( I have never been in the service) say the reason they joined the armed forces was “for the benefits,” and therefore it might be inferred, not for country or sense of duty. No doubt a lot of these private contractors /mercenaries in Afghanistan made a financial killing (terrible pun) but as long as they had the US government covering their backs, they would do whatever they were paid, and paid well, to do. As I search for rebuttals , I recall China had to call in troops from southern China, troops hardened by battle with the Vietnamese, to put down the revolt in Tianamen Square, as local troops would not comply with such brutal orders. Are not the US armed forces more homogenized from all over the country making compliance in the event of harsh martial law more difficult to implement?

  • Elinor0987 August 19, 2021 at 9:57 pm

What of this whole debacle has nothing to do with vaccines? If I understand correctly, the taliban and the Iranians are enemies. I think it’s awfully coincidental and convenient that all of that military gear was left over there. It’s enough to supply a small army. What if the plan was to let the taluban take over and fight the Iranians?

    • Avatar photo
Brandon Smith August 20, 2021 at 12:09 am

There’s no need at all to pull completely out of Afghanistan just to cause strife with Iran. They could have created conflict with Iran any time they wanted from any neighboring country. They also don’t need the Taliban to fight the Iranians. I think you are reaching. The real question is – WHY NOW? Why is this action being taken right as the globalists are racing toward their Reset and medical tyranny? I don’t think the timing is a coincidence.

*none of the abortion clinics none of the gay marriages and none of the transgender bathrooms*
all the gun and ammo manufacturers

And if Biden had established a green zone around Kabul and the neighboring provinces then an exit by May could have been easily accomplished without incident, but he did nothing, and then rushed troops and assets out as quickly and haphazardly as possible. Nothing Trump did explains this action.

Exiting Afghanistan suddenly creates chaos, and perhaps an easier country , now metaphorically cooked, to be handed to China or globalists, on a silver platter as part of a “deal” to realign control.

The Chinese will make trade deals with the Taliban, but that’s peripheral and not all that important in the grand scheme of things. If the globalists wanted direct control of Afghanistan they would have kept US troops there indefinitely; the country has already been in chaos for 20 years. I think there is also an element of “making America look bad”, or signaling the “end of the American empire”; but even that is peripheral. No, this is about preparation for an event that has not happened yet but is meant to happen soon. The pull out was so haphazard it is clear the vast resources being used in Afghanistan are needed elsewhere and FAST.

  • Keith August 20, 2021 at 4:00 am

There is definitely something else going on. I would need to know what is happening at the opium processing facilities the ISI and western intel agencies were/are operating in western Pakistan. Are they shut down? Is Fentanyl the new opium? Has the cash flow been moved to Chinese control? There are just too many aspects of this that will never be touched by the mainstream.
As far as all the weapons: long-term the only impact will be the small arms and shoulder fired systems. Tanks and planes require a large maintenance apparatus and expertise the Taliban will not be able to muster.

    • Stan Sylvester August 20, 2021 at 2:51 pm

It fascinating to consider how this all started. First the gubmint told the Taliban to hand over Bin Laden. When they asked for proof of his involvement in 9/11, the gubmint refused. They just told America Bin Laden was the man and they had to go get them. Patriotic flag waving Americans couldn’t have been prouder.
Prior to 9/11, the supposedly evil Taliban had reduced the Afghan poppy production to 180 tons/yr. They didn’t like the corruption it brought to their country and its youth. By 2017, with internet photos of U.S. troops guarding the poppy fields, production was raised to 9000 tons/yr. Hmmmm.
One of the contractors that benefited from this takeover was DynCorp. One of their jobs was, wait for it, oversee the destruction of the opium fields. I’m not sure who did their yearly job review.
Incompetance? Right. Mistakes? Right. Were the people with guns taking over towns this week the Taliban or Al CIAda?

My snarky irrelevant thought is..the globalists do things for a reason or two, money and power to further the agenda…so they want this global human drama and the repercussions …so Biden would seem to lose power in this instance, so that leaves money to gain from somewhere…how much does Hunter get?

  • Coops August 20, 2021 at 12:28 pm

I agree with Brandon, something wicked cometh this way. How many of you saw the US military practice takeoffs and landing with A-10s on a US highway in Michigan? The media played it off as just another training mission- although the US military has never landed A-10s on civilian roads before…

The US military trains in the environment where they see future combat missions. They have built fake villages on US bases that resemble something out of Afghanistan to more realistically train the troops.

Did anyone see the Field of Dreams baseball game? Just before the game started, four A-10s flew low over the field- not F-16s, not F-18s, not stealth bombers. And then, later in the game they highlighted the four pilots who were now in the stands.

Coincidence? Well, look at all of the wars since WW-II and ask yourself if the military brass has ever been straight with the American people?

  • CWG Mike August 20, 2021 at 1:13 pm

Funny you brought that up, because it occurred to me this morning that everyone talks about how the taliban has all the planes, helicopters, etc., which is worrying. What they gloss over is that you also have Afghan soldiers who can maintain and pilot them. You also have a terrorist organization who if they were smart made deals and has access to troops trained in western special forces tactics. They probably couldn’t take on a team of SEALs, but if you significantly up the “special forces” skills of your average jihadist, we will need some good hip-waders.

No one said they are “wise men”, just evil men that are not incompetent. Also, don’t take every national collapse at face value, not everything is as it seems or as the history books claim. Often, collapse events are engineered deliberately by those same evil people. They have much to gain when a population is in crisis and panic.

Excellent article Brandon. I hadn’t thought of it. That way. Based on the relatively small number of troops called back, I would say the need for tyrannical suppression and civil war is more likely than a conflict with China. They would need a lot more troops for that.
I’ll be extra watchful as 9/11 approaches

I would say the relocation of the 17,000 contractors is more concerning, but also keep in mind that there were around 10,000 troops in Afghanistan only a year ago. That’s a sizeable force. I would watch Taiwan and the South China Sea closely as well.

With the influx of military-aged males coming from the southern border (noted by several Youtubers, including Monkeywerx) and being flown to federal facilities, and now many from Afghanistan, I cannot help but wonder if the US gov is planning on formulating a new military force to fight against the American people. Certainly our current (mostly conservative) military personnel would pose a hindrance to their efforts right now…but if they weed out a bunch who refuse the vaccine and instead replace them with a bunch of people from other countries, that would solve some issue for them. Purely speculation, of course, but I may not be too far off the mark.

Even if Biden does try to use those troops he pulled out of Afghanistan for the sake of imposing medical tyranny here at home, I don’t think it’ll go as planned. Remember, he had the DOJ vet the NG troops sent to guard the Capitol after January 6th; indicating that Biden and the government as a whole don’t trust their own military.

The contractors on the other hand may be a different story. Contractor is the PC term for mercenary. And as we all know mercs are only loyal to whoever’s paying them and they aren’t going to have the same loyalty to the people or the Constitution as the troops especially if they’re foreigners.

Look at the latest “measures” in Australia. https://www.9news.com.au/national/coronavirus-nsw-lockdown-restrictions-update-greater-sydney-lockdown-extended-new-restrictions-curfew-explainer/8d6732e0-7e77-4d77-9eac-e05d31e75df8

Mr. Gates was recently on CNN and said America needs to take the approach of Australia.

I would like to see them try.

Great analysis as usual Brandon. I had not thought of the withdrawal as a means of organizing personnel and resources for an alternative agenda. Here’s what I think is going on:

Biden is being used as a puppet by the Uni-Party deep state for two reasons:
    1. Biden withdrawing from Afghanistan will reinvigorate the pro-war spirit within the Republican ranks. The election of Trump in the Republican primaries was a rejection of the Neocons and their incessant war propaganda and failed war campaigns in the Middle East. Neocons, having shamefully sought refuge among the Dems, want the Republican party back. Neocons are well funded by the MIC/Israel lobby.
    2. Biden’s bungled and chaotic withdrawal was done this way on purpose to serve as an example for war-hawks to use against any other withdrawals in the region. ‘Oh so you want to withdraw from Syria huh? Look what happened in Afghanistan!’

Even the left wing media is criticizing him for this, so either Biden is a courageous peacemaker willing to sacrifice his career to achieve an end to the war, or he is a doddering old fool who is being setup as a fall guy to ignite the fire under a war-weary right.

The insane rushing of the Pfizer vaccine into accelerated “full approval” is to allow Biden’s puppet masters to roll out medical martial law as a means to control the population and suppress the massive uprising that will soon commence.
As the truth about rigged elections and vaccine genocide becomes unstoppable, look for attempts at an internet kill switch / telecommunications outage strategy to try to stop people from communicating.

Under medical martial law, Biden is likely to order truly draconian enforcement actions such as criminalizing public protests, setting up vaccine passport checkpoints on highways, and relocating “anti-vaxxers” to the CDC’s “green zones” covid prison camps.

This is a passionate plea from a rational man. He is worried the Israeli government has committed a death sentence on the Israelis.
I think we have to find doctors who will treat us outside hospital once diagnosed as being ill with invermectin.
You dont want to be hospitalised.
If this in fact is an actual attempt to kill off millions of people worldwide. Heaven help us in the years to come with a soaring death rate from complications.
Hard to know what to believe but there does appear to be a mounting case to leave these vaccines alone and become an outsider in an increasingly cowed world.

This may well be a distraction:

Given that the way we withdrew was bound to result in this disaster one has to conclude it was deliberate. Since there is no rational reason an American administration would want to needlessly sacrifice American lives and dump arms and weapons into the Taliban’s lap, when one could just as easily have staged a more competent withdrawal, one has to look elsewhere for the explanation. It has been my fear since this happened that the whole thing is a distraction, designed to keep the news media and citizens focused on Afghanistan while things are done here in America. The disaster in Afghanistan coincides with September, which is the date for implementation of authoritarian ‘covid passes’ in NYC, California, and other places — as well as worldwide, in England, France, etc. It is likely that the idea was to keep all eyes on Afghanistan while untenable polices are enacted HERE…
