Preppers often focus on the worst case scenario (total collapse) when devising their survival plans, but history shows us that collapse is a process, not an event. There is always an interim, a period of time lasting multiple years when things are bad, but the system still functions. It is during this gray period in which elements of society start to become impulsive, angry and violent. They feel as if their life is stuck in a perpetual doldrums; the monotony of just scraping by.
A certain percentage of these people will inevitably turn to crime. It’s not just to take what they don’t have – They are desperate to break the pattern and their low morals are not enough to prevent them from harming others in the process. They feel like victims, and thus they feel entitled to recompense. If you are doing better than they are because you planned ahead, they will argue that you are part of the problem.
In the next issue of the Wild Bunch Dispatch I will be discussing the many strategies you can use to shut criminals down, even during times of relative stability. This will include measures for prevention and deterrence along with more extreme actions when necessary.
