The US Separation From Europe And NATO Is Long Overdue

April 9, 2026 25 Comments

By Brandon Smith

As much as many centrists and libertarians are opposed to Donald Trump’s ongoing strikes against Iran, I have to say, the downstream result might end up becoming one of the most libertarian results I have ever seen. For decades, small government activists like those in the Ron Paul movement have been calling for a comprehensive US divorce from NATO and the shutdown of America’s military bases overseas. Trump has, either deliberately or inadvertently, set this very process in motion.

The refusal of most of Europe (and Australia) to provide support in the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz might seem like geopolitical orbiting – In other words, getting involved could hurt them more than it would help them. Of course, these nations are far more exposed to the Hormuz closure and the slowdown in energy exports than the US. You would think their interests would demand a securing of the strait.

Europe is already struggling for energy resources due to the Ukraine war (a war they are deeply involved in), and this is where we stumble upon the ideological disconnect.

Europe’s Goal Is WWIII And They Expect America To Maintain The Status Quo

Europeans are perfectly willing to engage in war tensions with Russia while risking energy inflation and WWIII, all over a country that had minimal strategic or economic importance to them before the conflict. They have consistently called on the US to provide weapons and funding and intel to the Ukrainians, which we have obliged. And, they have called for American troops to stand at the forefront should a wider war erupt.

NATO and European governments love America…but only as a shield that benefits them. To be clear, it’s true that years ago NATO allies invested troops and equipment into the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, but one could also argue that, at that time, the establishment was in sync on both sides of the Atlantic.

There was no large scale movement to cut foreign aid scams (like Trump shutting down USAID). There was no movement to secure borders and prevent mass immigration. There was no movement against globalism beyond a handful of us in the alternative media working diligently to expose the truth. In the era of the early 2000s, the status quo was in full effect and Europe was happy to help in the Middle East.

Today? Not so much. The status quo has been disrupted.

Once The Cash Stopped Flowing Our “Friends” Became Scarce

It’s not surprising that once the cash stopped flowing so easily from American pockets, suddenly all of our “allies” went sour. Cuts to USAID and various foreign subsidy programs have created a shockwave in the global order. Even I have been stunned by the level of dependency of foreign nations on US monetary injections.

Once these programs started shutting down, the panic was palpable. And, once Trump demanded NATO countries start paying their fair share (5% of GDP), the breakdown in relations began. Many European social welfare programs exist exactly because they don’t have to pay for their own military defense.

The tariffs are another point of hypocrisy. Nearly ALL major European countries and economies have enforced tariffs and duties on US products for the past 60 years. When those same countries face tariffs imposed by the US, suddenly tariffs are an “act of aggression” and a line in the sand.

Trump is called an economic “bull in a china shop”, but he’s only doing to them what they’ve been doing to us for generations. Once again, the moment the status quo changes even a little and other nations are held to a similar standard, our friends no longer want to be our friends.

Europe’s Top Priority Is The Multicultural Agenda

And what about mass immigration? Ah, there’s the real divisive issue. Europe has become ground zero for a multicultural plague and EU governments are absolutely willing to sacrifice their own indigenous and largely white population to high crime, terrorism and cultural erasure in the name of a woke Utopia. The moment the US defied this ideological suicide and cracked down on open borders, the European elites turned hostile.

Europe is so enraged by any opposition to multiculturalism that they have implemented a series of Orwellian censorship laws. Tens-of-thousands of people are arrested and charged each year for “hate crimes”, which usually involve basic criticisms of open immigration. These are not governments we can break bread with.

I would point out that there are millions of people in the EU and the UK who are fighting against globalism on the political stage. Their movements are growing rapidly, from the “Restore” party in Britain to the National Rally in France and the AfD in Germany. They don’t necessarily agree with American conservatives an everything, but they are the only political groups worth aligning with in Europe today. All of them are gaining ground, but not fast enough.

Perhaps a separation from the US will actually help expedite the process? Because there is no possible way that Americans can remain in alliance with liberal European elites that want to see western culture and national borders destroyed. We’re not just at an impasse in principle, we are quickly becoming mortal enemies.

Trump’s recent call for NATO support in the Hormuz has exposed a level of hypocrisy within the organization that many libertarians and conservatives have been criticizing for years. NATO is only NATO so long as America is the rube making the bulk of the sacrifices.

Keep in mind that nothing liberal governments do is based on principle. War with Russia in Ukraine? Europe applauds and demands extensive US involvement. Send some ships to reopen a vital shipping lane in the Middle East? Suddenly they have moral qualms.

Why? There’s a lot of reasons, but I would argue that a great change is happening; an organized shift of the old world order into the “new world order”. There is a “multicultural alliance” (a globalist system) being built behind the scenes that is more important to the European elites than their relationship with the US. And, conservative movements are the enemy of this new multicultural system.

The Muslim population in Europe is currently 62 million – the stats have doubled in the past 20 years. There are 47 million third world migrants living in the region. Mass immigration has changed Europe irrevocably. At bottom, this social engineering experiment is designed to eradicate western civilization and it is THE HILL that leftists and globalists are willing to die on. Their entire vision for the future depends on it.

NATO governments are avoiding engagement in Iran, not because of some profound and principled moral stand, but because most European nations are saturated with third world immigrants who will turn on them if they enter the war in any way.

In my article “Britain Is Proof: Globalists Plan To Use Migrants As A Mercenary Army Against The West”, published in 2024, I outlined in detail the theory that European governments (and the Biden Administration in the US) were packing their borders with third world military age males to act as a covertly deployed, foreign mercenary army to subdue western populations should they rise up in revolt against the globalists.

European governments, and by extension most of NATO, are onboard with this plan. This is why war with Russia is fine, but war with Iran is not. This is also why I don’t buy into the conspiracy that the Israelis are at the top of the pyramid “controlling everything” from behind the scenes. If they were, then the European and NATO elites would have immediately joined the war effort against Iran.

There is an agenda afoot that is FAR bigger than the tiny nation of Israel or the marginal ideology of “Zionism”.

The Breakup Is Inevitable

The latest conflict is quickly leading to a breakup of NATO, with the Trump Administration broaching the topic on several occasions. After being denied use of airspace by a number of EU countries, it is possible that the US will seriously consider shutting down military bases in the region, remove nuclear weapons and leave Europe high and dry.

But, this international divorce is not about Iran, Israel, the Strait of Hormuz or even oil. It’s the result of a long running ideological clash that’s about to hit a crescendo.

One could argue that this will isolate the US from its allies and weaken our position in the world. I would argue that it’s our so-called “allies” that have been weakening us, and this separation is long overdue. The billions upon billions of dollars that the US spends annually to secure Europe could be used to reduce our debts here at home. Libertarians should rejoice if Trump carries out this policy.

Meanwhile, with US aid to NATO and the EU cut off, it will be much more difficult for progressive authoritarian leaders to maintain control of their respective populations (no more easy welfare programs). Their reliance on a third world invasion to subjugate western citizens might just be their undoing. It all depends on whether or not the nationalists fight back (I believe they will).

There is a potential end game here, in which European conservatives and American conservatives eventually join forces, but we’re not there yet. The geopolitical interdependency of the cold war model is going to have to die. NATO was supposedly established as a counterbalance to the hostile global ambitions of communism, but today, European and NATO governments ARE the hostile communists.

There is no reason for our alliance to continue any longer.

“… calling for a comprehensive US divorce from NATO and the shutdown of America’s military bases overseas… There is no reason for our alliance to continue any longer.”
    .
You know how this goes if you’ve been around a while.
    .
One day you wake up and look across the room at someone person getting dressed in front of the mirror and you ask – Why am I in this room? Who is that? And what did I ever see in them? And how can I get out of this already clean and quick?
    .
So this also is with international relationships and partnerships. Partnerships and commitments that may have once made (some?) sense become vacant and unnecessary or even harmful over time. The thrill is gone. The need is gone. And you just need – out of it.
    .
In the case of NATO… one can question whether it was even wise to forge this partnership in the beginning. But at this point in time, all NATO does is drain America’s treasury and strong-arms while creating a bunch of client lackey dependent ‘partner’ States that supposedly benefit from United States Incorporation protection as a benefit for Their being a US Inc. lackeys. Of course They prefer to be call “Partners” or “America’s Friends” but in fact what They are ‘friends’ only by being purchased to be used for “Empire”-ish purposes.
    .
It’s time to say… thanks for the memories but I’m walking out the door and not looking back. Have a nice life and find (and pay for) your own way. It’s been fun — except for the times when it hasn’t. You don’t look the same as you did in 1949 – and neither do I. We’ve both got lots of wrinkles we didn’t have before. We are sagging in places (and around the World) we didn’t before. And truth to be told – I can’t the sight of you any more. You’ve been leeching off me for too long. NATO? More like, “Say You Late-Oh.”
    .
In the words of the great B.B. King… “The Thrill Is Gone”.
    .
“The thrill is gone… The thrill is gone away
You know you done me wrong baby… And you’ll be sorry someday
You know I’m free, free now baby… Oh I’m free, free, free now
And now that it’s all over… All I can do is wish you well”
    .
Farewell, NATO. It’s been nice knowing you – except for the times when it wasn’t.
    .
    NATO? It’s not so Great-Oh… anymore. Bye…

I suspect as you do, that it will take a separation for the Citizens to realize it is upon them to save their own nations.

Happening under Trump 2.0 would bring this home to them – as they watch our troops depart. The graffiti “requesting” the Yankees go home would be fulfilled.

Americans will be happy to have our borders secured by those same troops.

I agree with you. It makes sense why countries don’t help with Hormuz, due to mass immigration. They’re afraid of the people.

You know what I find fascinating, mindblowing, and hilarious at the same time Brandon- the white woke liberals (especially white liberal beta men who have NOTHING really to gain not even the DEI Affirmative Action cookie points) and even the European elites (who happen to mostly white and male) fund and support the very third world animals that ALSO HAPPEN TO HATE THEM TOO – foolishly in the hopes that the imported illegal animals stay loyal as long as they are fed free food.

I laughed so hard at the clip of the woke leftist Australian Prime Minister (who is a white man) being heckled and booed out of a Muslim mosque by the very Muslims that they work so hard to appease to replace their own citizenry. It’s almost as hilarious as the liberal gays rooting and throwing protests for muslims and palestine, etc who would literally stone them to death just for being gay in Iran, Iraq, etc.. It’d be some sweet justice to see this all blow up in their faces.. lol

The leftists and the Islamists are happy to work together to destroy the west, but as soon as their task is accomplished they will turn on each other with bloody viciousness.

Eh, no, communists are globalists. Globalists are communists. They are one in the same, which is why they continually support the same causes and policies. I would say Islamist are theocrats, and theocrats and communists definitely hate each other, which is why the Islam/woke left alliance will inevitably collapse.

Sometimes those lines are blurry. Zbigniew Brzezinski is noted for hating Russia and the Soviet Union, but I still haven’t figured out why.

          • Jay April 10, 2026 at 3:19 pm

Back in the early 1970’s, a couple of very astute and well informed men visited my family and me and they were the first to warn us about globalists taking over the world. We all knew about communism back then, So I asked these men as simply as a child could ask, “Are globalists the same as Communists?” A Communist was the worst thing I could think of back then. So they answered, “No, Communism is a vehicle of Globalism.”

But in the end, globalism is essentially global communism.

America should also separate from United Nations as well, clearly f**k the rest of the other countries

Excellent point, Brandon, and the only time I have seen this point in print. The opposite is all that i see. I would just add that if the Israeli’s are that omnipotent maybe they should be running things /sarc/

Lord Balfour and the Sultan of Turkey probably don’t understand why they were a party to the regathering of the nation of Israel in 1948, but God can even use a European to accomplish His prophetic purposes.

Yes, I’ll never understand the level of genius that some people attribute to the Israelis, yet they can’t seem to convince their own devout servants among the European globalists to help them with Iran.

      • Jay April 10, 2026 at 3:06 pm

It’s not so much that Israelis are super intelligent. In fact, the Bible refers to them as dumb sheep, lost and rebellious. But God has given them gifts that have made them both a blessing, a cursing and a cup of trembling and a stumbling stone to the nations both at the same time. Israeli military intelligence and medical achievements have been considered second to none by the rest of the world for decades. But for the moment, God says that He has blinded the eyes of Israel to the Truth, who were once His chosen people, so that Gentile nations could also be saved. So God didn’t choose them because they were great, but because they were weak. Thus many if not most of the world doesn’t understand how to deal with Israel. This is why Israel is the threshing floor to all the armies of the world and it’s about to get real.

I would be quick to point out that Karl Marx was from England and never visited Russia. It has been said that Communism is a vehicle of Globalism. Both concepts have been proliferated to break the backs of the American taxpayer and give Europe a free ride. Surely there is a cheaper way to have U.S. bases to refuel aircraft than having to provide welfare to all of Europe at American taxpayer expense.

Remember that the original 13 colonies were founded as a tax base for the crown of England. They may have been repelled for a time in the late 1700’s, but they returned under the unratified 1913 Federal Reserve Act and your Federal taxes still go to IRS headquarters in Londons Bank of England to this day. The 12 Federal Reserve branches in the United States are in fact branches of the Bank of England. Before the intern was scrubbed of the information, I looked up IRS headquarters on the web and all references lead back to London.

I would point out that in the entire history of the Strait of Hormuz, it had never been closed until Iran was deliberately and illegally attacked by the US and Israel. The warnings had been sounded clearly for years, yet Trump went ahead anyway.

The strait was open before the attacks on Feb. 28, and subsequently closed. Now we have to go to war to reopen it, even though the war is the primary reason for closure in the first place. The Iranians have to be forced to open it even though it’s closure was due to force exercised by US and Israeli violent aggression. The logic and reasoning behind this cockamamie does not hold up.

The Hormuz is an international waterway and does not belong to Iran. It’s not theirs to close or open. Beyond that, it doesn’t matter because the US Navy is reportedly clearing the strait as we speak. Also, you apparently missed the entire point of the article – The war with Iran is irrelevant compared to the bigger picture at play. We can bitch all day about whether or not the strikes are justified, but it won’t change the fact that NATO is about to break apart for reasons that have nothing to do with the Hormuz.

MY FRIENDS, OUR FOUNDING FATHERS WARNED US SPECIFICALLY OF GETTING INVOLVED WITH ANYTHING EUROPEAN. YET WE DID, WE ENDED THREE WARS FOR THEM, THE FIRST WORLD WAR, THE SECOND WORLD WAR AND THE COLD WAR. WE HELPED REBUILD EUROPE AFTER TWO WORLD WARS WITH BILLIONS IN CASH, THOUSANDS OF TONS OF FOOD AND HELPED THEM GET BACK ON THEIR FEET. AS PRESIDENT EISENHOWER SAID, TEN YEARS AFTER THE END OF WW2 WE SHOULD HAVE LEFT EUROPE TO DEFEND ITSELF. WE SHOULD PULL OUT OF NATO LEAVE EUROPE AND THE MIDDLES EAST AND LET THEM SORT OUT THEIR OWN DAMNED PROBLEMS.

It will be interesting to see where everything financial ends up after the real reset begins. The petro dollar passed its’ high point in 2020. The scrambling for a new foothold will be amusing to watch as the world economy flounders. Paper currency will deteriorate. How will people trade? I do not want renimbi or euros. There is not enough gold to base a world economy on. There is only one currency that will never fail, bread!

Brandon Smith April 12, 2026 at 10:19 am

A world economy could be based on 1 ounce of gold. That one once would just be worth trillions in notes. The globalists will push for a digital off-ramp and CBDCs to replace the dollar system, but that’s not going to happen until there is a substantial war and/or global financial collapse because people won’t accept it otherwise. Others will push for a resource backed currency system (metals, oil/energy, food capacity, etc.). It will all depend on who wins the fight to decide who gets to rebuild.

      • Robert April 16, 2026 at 9:21 am

Agreed. Too many people think, “There’s not enough gold to have a gold standard.” I say, where did that drivel come from? An ounce of gold can be $200 or $2,000,000 an ounce. Whatever it takes for parity, except dollar creation is unlimited, which would have to stop. This would be opposed for various reasons, but it would slow commerce down. Would that be a good thing? I don’t know.

  • Mike April 16, 2026 at 7:10 am

Brandon, WHY are European (and US) Elites pushing multiculturalism so strongly, when it’s pretty clear that it comes with increased crime and pressure on social programs? Is it simply short term goals to get re-elected? Seems hard to believe. What am I missing?
