Gaslighting: How Leftist Psychopaths Demonize And Demoralize Their Opposition

April 1, 2021

By Brandon Smith

We have all heard this time honored cautionary mantra: “All governments lie”. It’s not a theory, it is a fact that history has proven time after time. I would only expand on the rule and say this: All governments, all corporations, all corporate media, all think tanks, and all corporate funded activist groups lie. There is a reason why public trust is at all time lows for the majority of these organizations, and it’s not because they are managed by good and honest people.

If you operate on the assumption that these groups are lying to you most of the time then you will find yourself on the right side of history. That said, there are questions we need to ask ourselves if we ever hope to change the world for the better and remove these liars from power: Why do they lie? Why has this become a rule to live by? And, how are they able to lie and get away with it so often?

Well, it’s not because power corrupts. That cliché might be true to a point, but I think it’s a way for people to dismiss the bigger problem because they are afraid to address the ugly truth. The reality is, power does not necessarily corrupt; it’s that the corrupt seek out power.

Governments and other mainstream institutions always lie because psychopathic liars always infiltrate and overrun them. We have very few checks in place to prevent this, and very little is understood about psychopaths in the general public. To understand destructive institutions is to understand the character traits and methods of the psychopaths that control them.

Psychopaths are not very complicated people nor are they all that intelligent, but they often succeed because they are relentless in their pursuits. The common signs of psychopathy include a complete lack of empathy, the obsessive desire for dominance, the use of physical or psychological violence to gain control over others, a narcissistic need to feel superior to everyone else and a habit of playing the victim while victimizing others.

A common assumption about psychopaths is that they are incapable of working in a group or organizing for mutual gain. This is simply nonsense. In reality, numerous studies have shown that psychopaths are adept at finding their own kind in a crowd and even working together as a pack of predators. Some modern examples would be organized crime, cartels, sex traffickers, online scamming groups and religious cults.

Almost all psychopaths are inherent cowards; they will rarely pick on anyone their own size unless they have large numbers. The worst case scenario is fully realized organized psychopathy; the advent of a totalitarian culture in which psychopathic behavior is rewarded and defended by those in authority or influence, while honesty, morality and liberty are punished.

Over the course of generations, psychopaths have used different groups and ideologies to gain control over the public, but today organized psychopaths have chosen the cult of socialism, social justice, fake environmentalism and leftist ideology as their vehicles. Essentially, we are dealing with a modernized version of communism. And if we examine the habits of current leftist and globalist “movements” we will see a lot of similarities to historic communism, not to mention numerous psychopathic behaviors.

The use of “Gaslighting” as a weapon is a classic mainstay of psychopaths and by extension communist regimes, and it is visible EVERYWHERE in politics and the media right now. It’s perhaps ironic that I am publishing this article on April Fools Day, because gaslighting is very much a kind of trick, a con game. And, in order to control people, it helps to humiliate them and make them doubt their own conceptions of reality.

The basic definition of gaslighting is the manipulation of a person by psychological means into questioning their own sanity. In other words, making a sane person believe they might be insane. This, however, is not an adequate explanation of gaslighting. It’s not only about questions of sanity, it is also about questions of principle and morality.

The communist Soviet Union was notorious for gaslighting the public with propaganda that suggested anyone who defied the will of the state and who demanded freedom was “mentally ill”. The Cheka secret police and the KGB had special hospitals set aside for political dissidents called “Psikhushkas”. People of any prominence who were critical of the status quo were immediately disappeared and sent to these facilities after being accused of mental instability.

In Maoist China, especially during the Cultural Revolution, Mao targeted impressionable and gullible Chinese youth, brainwashing them into believing there was “institutional imperialism” hiding within every facet of Chinese society. The stability of communism in China was under question at the time, and Mao knew a rebellion was possible. So, instead of immediately cracking down with the military, he encouraged Chinese academics and youths to “rebel” and “bring down the secret imperialists”. He redirected social discontent and aimed it at a non-existent ghost so that a rebellion would never rise up against him and the politburo.

Young and dumb Chinese activists thought they were rebelling when they were actually serving the interests of government elites.

Gaslighting in China was pervasive. Any person that held the most remote belief in freedom, free markets, business, private property or anyone that had any objections to the crimes of the communists was forced to undergo a trial, a kangaroo court called a “struggle session”.

During a struggle session, a dissident was sometimes apprehended, or sometimes shamed and compelled to stand before a large crowd of true believers in the communist faith. The crowd would browbeat them with accusations of criminality and immorality, trying to convince them of the evil of their ways. If the dissident bowed and submitted to the collective, begging forgiveness, then they might be allowed to live, but they had to BELIEVE that they had sinned. They had to fully adopt the communist ideology and plead for absolution.

Many victims that underwent such struggle sessions continued to believe they were criminals for the rest of their lives. They believed they were terrible people, even though they had no idea why they were punished in the first place.

Gaslighting is a powerful device for subjugation because it makes good people who love freedom think they are evil people that need to be restrained. It is also a way for a corrupt system to maintain control of the general population because it normalizes psychopathic behavior and suppresses moral conscience by convincing people that morality is “relative” or a “matter of perspective”, and that some abusive and destructive behavior is “necessary” in order to achieve a better world. If you can discombobulate a population into questioning their own morality, or if you can convince them to question their own sanity, then you can prevent them from ever rebelling against you.

These are the tried and true methods of psychopaths. If you ever wonder why abused spouses or family members stay with and even defend their abusers, it is because psychopaths use gaslighting to disarm their victims. If you are crazy or subconsciously treacherous, then maybe you aren’t being abused at all. Maybe, you are being saved from yourself, and maybe society is being protected from you?

And, if you lash out and defend yourself against the abuser, now you are truly a horrible human being. You just attacked your “protector”. You are now a danger to society. You are now a terrorist. The only way to avoid being labeled a terrorist or a madman is to quietly accept the abuse.

I see this control tactic all over the world, and it is becoming rather prevalent here in the US. The capitol building protest is a perfect example. Millions of law abiding Americans have been abused and oppressed by the establishment through lockdowns and censorship, while groups of leftists like BLM and Antifa are allowed to run rampant across the country looting and burning as they go. Conservative Americans reacted with a protest after the election, seeing that such abuses were likely to be aided in the near future by the federal government under Joe Biden. They raided the capitol building, without armaments, to make a point. Then, they peacefully left.

Afterwards, the media bombarded us for months with the narrative that the capitol protest was actually an “insurrection” and an act of domestic terrorism. So, BLM gets to loot and burn their way through dozens of American cities and it’s called peaceful protesting. Conservatives protest at a single building and bust through the doors, and it’s considered an act of war. This is gaslighting.

Under pandemic mandates a vast portion of the US has been shut down and hundreds of thousands of small businesses have been lost. The fear mongering in the media over the coronavirus has been egregious and ridiculous. Hundreds of thousands of people die every year in America from communicable diseases. Now, suddenly, we are supposed to abandon all of our constitutional rights because of covid?

Anyone who has disagreed with these measures has been called a “conspiracy theorist” and a danger to others. The science is on our side, and always has been. Every element of the pandemic has been exaggerated and overblown. Every statistic supports our skepticism of the government’s response, as I outlined in my recent article ‘The Real Reasons Why Millions Of Americans Will Defy Covid Mandates And Vaccines’.

But, when we cite these facts, we are told by the establishment that we are “lunatics” and “idiots”.

Of course, now we know that the death rate of Covid-19 according to scientific studies is a paltry 0.26% outside of nursing homes. We also know that lockdowns were completely useless in controlling the spread of the virus, as states with the harshest mandates ended up with the highest infections rates. And, finally, we know that masks are also useless in controlling the spread of the disease according to scientific studies and common sense observation.

Rather than admitting that lockdowns are pointless, that the masks do nothing and that it is silly to take an experimental mRNA vaccine for a virus that is a non-threat to 99.7% of the population, establishment hacks continue to double down on their propaganda when it comes to covid. The media continues to attack anyone that points out the REAL science as “conspiracy theorists”. This is gaslighting.

And finally, we can’t really have a discussion about gaslighting without mentioning the social justice agenda.

The phrase “white supremacy” is being repeated by corporate journalists and politicians until they are blue in the face. And more specifically, conservatives are being called out as the “biggest terrorist threat” to the US in decades because of our supposed white supremacist tendencies. The latest “spike” in Asian hate crimes is the new excuse for this propaganda campaign.

Set aside the fact that millions of conservatives are black and brown, not white. Set aside the fact that the majority of the hate crimes targeting Asians the past couple years were actually perpetrated by black assailants (as I noted in last week’s article), and one of them is even a known BLM activist. Also set aside the fact that around 50% of all violent crime in the US is caused by black perpetrators according to the FBI. Somehow, all of this anarchy is the fault of white people in general and conservatives in particular.

The race baiting used by leftists the past several years is a prime example of gaslighting – Telling people they are responsible for evils they had nothing to do with and that are completely unrelated to them, then demanding they declare submission and loyalty to an ideology that seeks to enslave them as a means to wash away sins they were never guilty of.

If totalitarian control of the population is to be established in the US and the west, we have to be tricked into thinking our values of freedom, truth and meritocracy are somehow inherently evil. We have to be tricked into thinking we are insane for wanting liberty. To be clear, there only three ways that the brainwashing and gaslighting of free people will stop:

1) We submit and embrace the false narrative as if it is true and give in to psychological slavery.

2) We separate completely from leftist totalitarians and organized psychopaths and go our own way.

3) We remove the psychopaths from the picture and rebuild without their influence.

Until one of these three things happens, like all psychopaths, leftists and globalists will continue trying to wear us down. This is what they do. They have seen it work in the past and they are single minded in their objectives.

    Awesome article!

  • Beewolf April 1, 2021 at 9:03 am

Option 1 is immoral and option 2 will only gar them double down. Thank you for exposing this cherished trick of the magician.

  • Nigel Gould April 1, 2021 at 11:12 am

It looks like there is rumble in and around the Donbass (Ukraine) again. War could be imminent. All major powers involved.

    • Nigel Gould April 2, 2021 at 3:25 pm

It’s all about Crimea and the Decree No. 117/2021 that Ukrainian president Zelensky signed on March, 24. Basically, it’s a declaration of war against the Russians, in order to steal Crimea back from Russia.

      • Nigel Gould April 4, 2021 at 5:11 pm

Of course I did not mean to say that the Russians originally stole Crimea. It’s historical Russian ground, overwhelmingly supported by the Crimean people. Only that Ukraine, together with puppet Biden and fellow Western warmongers, are eager to even risk WW3 over Crimea. Or at least use it as a pretext.

  • Mr. Crowley April 1, 2021 at 2:46 pm

Another fine article, Brandon. Your “three ways that the brainwashing and gaslighting of free people will stop” is not much of a choice for ways to stop this.
#3 Will never happen. Not enough people seriously able to face such a choice.
#2 Could possibly happen, but would be quashed by the psychopaths we seek to separate from.
#1 Is the most likely to occur, as ~50% of the western world are already their slaves.
I’m sorry, but the psychopaths seem to hold all the cards and they have always seemed to get what they want, at least since the end of WWII.

You are overthinking the situation and give low IQ psychopaths too much credit. #2 is already happening as millions of conservatives are relocating to red states. #3 will likely happen when the elites try to stop us from relocation and separation. The red states will never comply with another lockdown, nor will they comply with gun confiscation. War will not go the way the globalists think it will. Afterwards, they will be removed from our society. You may not see these moves in play, but you will soon enough. Comparing the events of this era to anything that has happened the past century is impractical. Never before have the globalists been so exposed. Psychopaths fail ALL THE TIME, but their persistence and ability to hide still makes them dangerous. The globalists no longer have anywhere to hide. Their failure this time around will result in their elimination.

      • William April 1, 2021 at 3:00 pm

Mr Crowley, well stated. However, I disagree. We are seeing individuals, cities, states etc all choosing different options and all of these will possibly start at one of these and end up at another. One may submit until no longer submitting, one might not submit until giving up and wanting to just eat a steak (the matrix). It’s such an amazing thing that people like Brandon are doing the work they are doing, enlightening as many as possible to listen to reason, use whatever is left of their critical thinking, to find the truth and the light! God bless you Brandon!

      • Lieutenant Beale April 1, 2021 at 5:34 pm

        Option #1: Oh hell no!

Option #2: This is the smart option, but, as you’ve already stated they, the psychopaths, are not the brightest bulbs in the attic. Moreover those folks never take “no” for an answer.

Option #3: I fear it might lead to this but it certainly has happened in history before. Only 3% of the population fought the Revolutionary War.

      • Surak April 2, 2021 at 8:24 am

I choose option 2. I am blogging on secession here:

I include links at the bottom of the blog for other secession resources.

    • Timmy75 April 8, 2021 at 10:01 am

The psychopaths understand their victims, whereas their victims cannot comprehend psychopathy. For many, to do so might very well lead to their going insane. Perhaps their lack of understanding is an instinctual defense mechanism?

“If only it were all so simple! If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?”

If only Solzhenitsyn had been right on that subject, but he was wrong. There is indeed a cabal of evil people, far more evil than any average person comprehends. We are able to understand these psychopaths, but it takes time and study. They operate outside of normal human interactions. They have to be understood clinically, as if you are dissecting an alien.

  • William April 1, 2021 at 2:46 pm

Brandon, I have been reading your work for many years, probably since you started. Honestly, lately only through zerohedge though. This time found you through Steve Quayle. Point is…WOW! This is probably the best article you’ve ever written! If people do not understand this they can’t truly understand anything going on now. This is the magic sword of reason that shreds lies into visible truth! Well done!!!

  • St. Columcille April 1, 2021 at 3:13 pm

Absolutely spot on. I’ve always referred to these psychopaths as “narcissists” but it would appear that they are one in the same.

I’ve been told that “conspiracy theorists” are insane or dumb for believing in “some global conspiracy” (which is a major oversimplification of what’s going on). I guess when you’re ignorant of history, and of the existence of these psychopaths, it probably seems far-fetched. But when you know your history and understand that these sick people are out there and drawn to positions of power, everything makes sense, and you can almost predict what they’re going to do next.

I didn’t predict covid or a pandemic, but by about 2018 I realised that it seemed like the financial system (either the stock bubble or the dollar itself or both) was going to collapse in the near future, and that would hurt the globalists’ legitimacy. Also, I recognised that they had a problem in Trump and Brexit and all the other successes of the liberty movement… People really weren’t into their top down control style and I really wondered how they were going to avoid paying a heavy price once it blew up in their faces… and I knew that they wouldn’t be averse to pulling dirty tricks to make sure they came out unscathed.

And… here we are… and sure enough, they pulled several BIG moves. Clever bastards, I’ll give them that.

It always makes me shake my head when people say they “don’t believe in conspiracy theories”… might as well say “I think it to be impossible that people would ever conspire together for a criminal purpose, and then lie about it or cover it up.”

All “governments” are psychopathocracies (in common collusion). It is a ‘fait accompli’, not something that evt. could happen in the future.
Here you can read how (logically) intelligent (absolute: this is a phenomenon and results in *the addition of TRUE madness* ) moral morons with a pure evil inhumane socalled ‘alien mindset’ called “adapted compensated psychopaths” , go about there business, relentlessly (like a killer robot under a charming or even mesmerizing ‘mask of sanity’ and speaking with a soothing voice…..) infiltrating government everywhere to make their dreams come to fruition:

  • DC Miami April 1, 2021 at 5:12 pm

I wholeheartedly agree with every word of this article. I’ve witnessed this and have been on the receiving end of it myself, as a guy with zero trust in government, media, and knowledge of the underbelly of everything. I’ve heard all the terms and had people shake their head at me. The effect it can have is to coerce those people into not sharing their opinions, enabling the narrative to go unchallenged among the general population. I have my times when I forcefully state my beliefs and challenge conventional thinking. It usually leads to tension and/or conflict. I don’t want to spend my whole day engaged in this shit, so I kind of pick my spots based on the circumstances of the moment.

These are examples of just how dangerous and relentless our foe is. They support their position and attack the opposition in so many different ways. They have a massive tool chest and they use every weapon at their disposal.

  • Gauntlet33 April 1, 2021 at 5:40 pm

“A common assumption about psychopaths is that they are incapable of working in a group or organizing for mutual gain. This is simply nonsense. In reality, numerous studies have shown that psychopaths are adept at finding their own kind in a crowd and even working together as a pack of predators.”

Another example is the BLM rioters or the black male who recently blindsided and beat down a small, frail, old asian female.

FYI, I only see two options…#2 and #3.

  • Black Cat April 1, 2021 at 5:41 pm

?Here’s to secession and removal of Psychopaths.

    • Alex April 7, 2021 at 1:47 am

As to removal of psychopaths, a exceedingly large percentile of them are rushing as Lemmings do, to get their ‘Shots!’ If the mRNA does the trick we’ll be rid of several multiple millions of them in no short order. Encourage every psychopath you see to get their shots! This is a great win for reasoned thinking peoples!

      • rich April 8, 2021 at 12:07 am

        Ha ha, YES that’s it!

  • Captain Nemo April 2, 2021 at 4:22 am

In the meantime, one must deconstruct their propaganda, expose it as a fallacy, expose their real motives, and promote the correct understanding of reality.

  • Captain nemo April 2, 2021 at 4:29 am

Another thing, Those who do the “gaslighting” may not all be psychopaths.
Psychopaths are often those who were gaslighted by the real masters of propaganda, and serve as useful idiots for them.
The real source of manipulation are some interest groups embedded in society, like societies inside a society, who use manipulation for their benefit.

    • Avatar photo
Brandon Smith April 2, 2021 at 4:37 am

Yes, but if you go to the source of any propaganda or gaslighting campaign, there is almost always a psychopath at the helm. Useful idiots also tend to have narcopathic or psychopathic tendencies; there is a reason the control narrative appeals to them. They aren’t innocent.

      • Gauntlet33 April 7, 2021 at 9:39 am

        Totally agree.
Here’s perhaps an example of that: I was waiting for the elevator, door opens and I see a female inside who appeared cold and unfriendly, but I quickly wrote it off as she was busy texting. I mention this because I always say “hello” whenever I enter another’s “space” (elevator, room, etc.), but I don’t recall having received a response. I then enter and she tells me to raise my mask (even though I was 6 ft from her in the elevator and was wearing my mask, but my nose was exposed…dear GOD!!). I was leaving work for the day and thought it would be futile to argue with a COVIDIOT so I just raised it to appease this mask Nazi. Her desired floor arrives and she then tells me after she stops and exits, “Next time you should ask if you can enter!” I was about to give her the full force of a verbal attack, but part of me thought, “Don’t worry, God will take care of this poor soul when her time comes.”

  • Pete Papageorge April 2, 2021 at 5:20 am

I am officially starting on #2.

I bought acreage in a red county 4 years ago for the purpose of leaving my leftist controlled city, and we have the blueprints finalized, all of the bids in file with our rural builder, and very soon we will have to use the system to get it started, but the outcome is the goal, regardless of what is used in the process. I like to call it using the system or banking cartel to get my peace away from the leftist city before it is too late.

I call it betting against the system. If the entire economic system collapses, the house will still be standing and where I live, good luck. Banks do not have a military and by the time the powers that be try and nab anyone out here in red fly over areas, the full rebellion would have started by then. We will be working with our smaller communities for mutual defense and survival away from the larger cities that will fall to chaos and gangs.

Get out while you can to red fly over areas and start to get to know your neighbors. I work in a large factory in a small community away from the main highways. That means majority of workers are hunters and fish, thus gun owners that do not like Biden, and they are union. Great place when you have over 1,300 employees working in a plant in a small off the beltway city. Way for more conservatives that leftists to start conversations about what is going on.

I have found out in the last few months how many like minded workers live near where we are planning to build, and they love guns and their rights and privacy. Trust me, building those community style relationships, that take time no doubt, are happening with what we could be facing soon. Time is of essence, start it now if you have not.

  • Pete Papageorge April 2, 2021 at 5:23 am

‘Way for more conservatives that leftists to start conversations about what is going on.’

Should read, way more conservatives than leftists to start conservations about what is going on.

The truth hurts, just as love…. “If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.” -Nikola Tesla-

Polarization is a fact of human life, left vs. right is a fact of political life and all people fall somewhere on the spectrum, but the globalists are not a fact of life and neither is race conflict in our modern era. This is all about principles vs ideologies. Leftists will never be convinced of their useful idiocy, but at least most conservatives realize what the game is, which means we have a chance to fight back.

  • Dennis April 3, 2021 at 5:53 am

This is WW3, we are already under attack. Doing nothing is no option, they are forcing us to fight back. Agenda 21

    I vote for Option #3

  • Gotheart April 5, 2021 at 6:56 am

Seems to me when we signed up for a social security number we signed up for option #1. No ss#, no hire, no work. We were unaware we were giving into the psychopath totalitarianism. #2 Mockingly I’ll call the Great Disconnect is in the process. Happening. #3 Will happen as we rebuild. We will go on our own and rebuild without them. Ah hell. Haven’t yal done this with family members? I’ve had to. Taken a while. They are alway there, ya know like a fifth cousin, but I won’t let them into my life anymore. Too malicious! Wasn’t easy disconnecting from adorable grandkids. ?But it was the only way. I had to disconnect from the torment day in day out. ?So I say hell yeah! Let’s keep goin’ and rid ourselves of these malicious tormentors. I’ve tried a new mask script. Best one yet. “My health insurance won’t cover me I’d I wear a mask. And you won’t sell me groceries if I don’t wear a mask.” Put it back on them. Then I turn and got groceries. It worked. ? Stay watchful. Be relentless. Keep goin’

  • Dustin April 5, 2021 at 11:35 am

Somewhat of a long read, but this article was very enlightening. It explains much of the frustration that I have encountered as an employee in medium sized businesses…

A great quote from another article with a broader, esoteric scope:

…We find a certain common factor that has been identified as the ‘authoritarian personality type’. This type of individual is characterized by three attitudinal and behavioral clusters which are interrelated.

    1) Authoritarian submission – a high degree of submissiveness to the authorities who are perceived to be established and legitimate in the society in which one lives or the peer group with whom one is involved or works. Naturally, if many of one’s peers are personality disordered – and there is a high probability of that being the case in any field where authority over others is to be had – then one is inculcated into submissiveness to psychopathological ideation.

    2) Authoritarian aggression – a general aggressiveness directed against other people that are perceived to be targets according to the established authorities as defined in number 1.

    3) Conventionalism – a high degree of adherence to the traditions and social norms that are perceived to be endorsed by society – or one’s peer group – and its established authorities, and a belief that others in one’s society should also be required to adhere to these norms. Once again, if the traditions and social norms are established by authorities with control agendas, everything is corrupted from the top down.

  • Gauntlet33 April 7, 2021 at 9:52 am

Also, I was very pessimistic and fully expecting a federal lockdown here in the US in the time frame that Brandon previously noted, but now I’m more optimistic and here’s why:

This past weekend I decided to check in again and see if the batting cages are open at Sherman Oaks Castle, where thousands of people go for mini golf, arcades, etc., and which is run by the City/County. Turns out they are and have been since Feb. 23rd. Ice rinks have also re-opened. That means 6 weeks of mass people gatherings without a major “spike” in cases. So unless there’s a bunch of BLM riots burning down buildings and causing major chaos nation-wide, I don’t see any political leverage for Biden to impose any lockdown. The hot war (perhaps for the next 5-10 yrs) may be over before it even started. Crossing my fingers that I’ve over-prepared, but I’ll be ready just in case.

Brandon Smith April 7, 2021 at 10:00 am

Don’t discount the “mutation” narrative; Biden will attempt future lockdowns in my view based on a variant of covid. He has to, the establishment has nothing without the pandemic narrative and the medical passports. But as I noted a couple months ago, I think the globalists really blew it with their pandemic agenda in the US. They overestimated the effectiveness of the virus and the amount of control they had over conservatives. They have a real fight on their hands.

  • Gauntlet33 April 7, 2021 at 1:12 pm

Yup. They blew their wad and now they’re forced to either “go for broke” on nothing but smoke and mirrors (which the US population will not tolerate unless there’s a real threat like bubonic plague or smallpox, etc.), or stuff their tails between their legs, take their ball and go home.
